The mouse may not track as smoothly after you enable the "Enhance pointer precision" feature in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (895550)

SYMPTOMS
After you enable the Enhance pointer precision feature in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), you may find that the mouse does not track as smoothly as it did before you enabled this feature.
For example, you may notice the problem when you use the mouse to slowly draw a diagonal line toward the lower-right corner of the window in a drawing program such as Microsoft Paint (MSPaint.exe).
CAUSE
This problem may occur when you use the Microsoft Mouse driver in Windows XP SP2 with certain mouse or trackball devices.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, turn off the Enhance pointer precision feature:
- Click Start, click Run, type control mouse, and then click OK.
- Click the Pointer Options tab, click to clear the Enhance pointer precision check box, and then click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
