Error message when you start the MOM 2005 Operator console on a computer that is running MOM 2005 and Windows Server 2003: "Application has generated an exception that cannot be handled" (895324)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Operator console, you receive an exception error message that resembles the following:
MOM.UI.OPSCONSOLE.EXE.EXE - Common language runtime debugging services
Application has generated an exception that cannot be handled
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You start the MOM 2005 Operator console on the computer that is running MOM 2005.
  • MOM 2005 is running on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Operation Manager 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To work around this issue, run the MOM 2005 Operator console from a computer that is not the MOM 2005 server.
