You receive a "Photo Story cannot create the VCD because an error occurred" error message in Digital Image (894725)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a video CD (VCD) in Microsoft Digital Image, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Photo Story cannot create the VCD because an error occurred.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You are using a CD-RW drive from LG Electronics, Inc. The model is "HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8400B."
  • The CD-RW drive is not correctly installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, update the device driver for the CD-RW drive, and then try to create the VCD again. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
  3. In Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
  4. Right-click the CD-RW drive that you want to update, and then click Update Driver.
  5. Follow the instructions in the Hardware Update Wizard to update the driver.
