FIX: Windows XP stops responding when more than one process accesses a file on a NFS shared linked folder from Client for NFS (894186)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Windows XP stops responding (hangs) when you access a file that is on a Network File System (NFS) shared linked folder from Client for NFS. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • Windows XP runs on a computer that has more than one CPU.
  • More than one process accesses the file on the shared linked folder at the same time.
  • The NFS shared folder is hosted on HP-UX.
When the system stops responding, you receive the following error message:
Error 0x27, RDR_FILE_SYSTEM

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
