LPD print jobs do not run in a Windows 2000 Server cluster environment (891010)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You have a spooler resource on a cluster node. The cluster node is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server. In this scenario, client computers use the Line Printer Daemon (LPD) protocol to access shared printers. However, print jobs from the client computers do not run as expected.

Note You may not experience this problem when you use the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol or remote procedure call connections.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a race condition that occurs in the spooler resource. This race condition occurs if the spooler resource is frequently taken offline and then brought back online.
