The screen remains black when you try to play certain DVDs in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (887936)

SYMPTOMS
When you try to play a DVD in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you find that the DVD does not play and the screen remains black.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if the DVD does not contain a First Play Program Chain (PGC) in the disc's First Play domain. The problem occurs because Windows Media Center Edition 2005 does not support DVDs that do not contain the First Play PGC.
This problem occurs most frequently when you try to play a DVD that has been recorded by a home DVD recorder. Most professionally manufactured DVDs contain the First Play PGC.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, play the DVD on a third-party DVD player. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
