Internet Explorer 6 features are turned on when you restore defaults that are not turned on when you install Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or with Service Pack 2 (887678)

INTRODUCTION

You can configure several browsing settings in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. This article discusses two browsing settings that are not turned on by default when you install Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or with Service Pack 2 (SP2). However, these settings are turned on when you click Restore Defaults in Internet Explorer 6 Advanced properties.

By default, the following settings are not turned on when you install Windows XP with SP1 or with SP2:
  • Automatically check for Internet Explorer updates
  • Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
However, when you click Restore Defaults in Internet Explorer 6 Advanced properties, these settings are turned on.

To configure these settings manually, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer 6.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click to select the check boxes for the features that you want to turn on, or click to clear the check boxes for the options you want to turn off.
