INTRODUCTIONThis article contains information about how to upgrade the 180-day evaluation version of Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 to the full retail version of Virtual Server 2005. This information applies to Virtual Server 2005, Standard Edition and to Virtual Server 2005, Enterprise Edition.MORE INFORMATIONTo upgrade your 180-day evaluation version of Virtual Server 2005 to the full retail version of Virtual Server 2005, you must remove the evaluation version and then install the full retail version. You cannot upgrade by installing the full retail version of Virtual Server 2005 on the computer that has the 180-day evaluation version of Virtual Server 2005 already installed. To remove the evaluation version, use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
Virtual machines that were created by using the evaluation version are not deleted when you remove the evaluation version. After you install the full retail version, you can use any virtual machine that was created by using the evaluation version. The virtual machines that were created by using the evaluation version are fully compatible with the full retail version.
Note Virtual Server 2005, Standard Edition installs only on servers that have up to 4 physical processors. However, Virtual Server 2005, Enterprise Edition can be installed on servers that have up to 32 physical processors. Both editions provide the same features and functionality.
