All blocked content is unexpectedly unblocked after you unblock a single TV program in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (887281)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Parental Control access code to unblock access to a single TV program in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005, all blocked programs are unexpectedly unblocked.

For example, when you try to view a TV program that is blocked by Parental Control settings, you receive a message that is similar to the following: Program Blocked.

The program's rating exceeds the minimum allowed rating. To watch the program press OK on the remote, and then enter your access code. When you press OK on the remote and then enter your access code, you can watch the program. However, you can also watch other blocked programs, even though this message seems to suggest that only the single program is unblocked.

CAUSE

When you press OK and then enter the Parental Control access code, you have access to blocked content on any channel instead of to only the single program that you intend to unblock. Specifically, you have access to blocked content on any channel for a period of two hours or until you restart Media Center.

WORKAROUND

After you finish watching the program that you unblocked by using the Parental Control access code, quit and then restart Media Center to reset the Parental Control parameters. After you do this, you must enter the Parental Control access code again to view any blocked programs.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
