Site-to-site communication stops after you run Aclreset.exe on an SMS 2003 site server (887014)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

After you run Aclreset.exe on a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 site server, you may experience the following symptoms:
  1. Inventory information for one or more child sites is not updated in the parent site.
  2. Advertisements and packages that are created on a parent site are not received on child sites.
Note Aclreset.exe is available on the SMS 2003 CD.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the site connection account is not added to the SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_SiteCode group when you upgrade SMS 2.0 to SMS 2003.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps to add the site connection account to the SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_SiteCode group:
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers.
  2. Right-click DomainName, and then click Find.
  3. Click Users, Contacts, and Groups in the Find box.
  4. Type SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_SiteCode in the Name box, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the Search results box, double-click SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_SiteCode.
  6. On the Members tab, click Add.
  7. In the Enter the object names to select (examples) box, type the name of the site connection account, and then click OK two times.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Aclreset.exe removes permissions for the Drive:\Sms\Despool\Receive folder. Aclreset.exe then adds permissions for the following groups:
  • Administrators
  • SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServer_Connection_SiteCode
  • SMS_SitetoSiteConnection_P01
  • SYSTEM
Because the site connection account is not a member of the SMS_SitetoSiteConnection_SiteCode group, the site connection account cannot access the \Sms\Despool\Receive folder. The \Sms\Despool\Receive folder is used to transfer site-to-site communications.
