The setup process for hotfixes or security patches stops responding when the MS DTC service is disabled (886972)

SYMPTOMS

When the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) service is disabled, the setup process for any one of the following updates stops responding on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer:
  • 823230
  • 913580
  • 911280
The Software Update Installation Wizard appears to stop responding as it is displaying the Finishing installation dialog box. RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the latest COM+ 1.5 Rollup Package for Windows Server 2003, or upgrade to Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
