FIX: Your CPU utilization may increase and your computer may stop responding when you use a Windows Forms application that has a DataGrid control in the .NET Framework 1.0 (886763)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Windows Forms application that contains a DataGrid control, your CPU utilization may increase unexpectedly, and your computer may stop responding. This problem may occur when one of the following conditions is true:

You set the column width for a column in the DataGrid control to 0 so that it is not displayed.
You click a DataGrid control column that is only partially visible.

Note This problem occurs after you install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3 (SP3).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
