SYMPTOMSWhen you play Microsoft Zoo Tycoon: Marine Mania Expansion Pack, you receive the following error message: Microsoft Zoo Tycoon has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Additionally, the game quits unexpectedly. When you view the data that is contained in the error report, the error report contains an error signature that is similar to the following: AppName AppVer ModName ModVer Offset

CAUSEThis issue occurs when you install third-party add-in items for Microsoft Zoo Tycoon.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, use one of the following methods. Remove Zoo TycoonNote Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
To remove and then reinstall Zoo Tycoon, follow these steps: - Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
- In the list of programs that appears, click the Zoo Tycoon program, and then click Change/Remove.
For example, if you have Microsoft Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection installed, click Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection. - Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the removal process.
- Insert the Zoo Tycoon installation CD into your CD or DVD drive. If you have Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection, insert the first installation disk.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.
- Insert the installation CD that contains the Zoo Tycoon: Marina Mania Expansion Pack into your CD or DVD drive. If you have Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection, insert the second installation disk.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation of the Zoo Tycoon: Marine Mania Expansion Pack. If you have Zoo Tycoon: Complete Collection, the Microsoft Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs Expansion Pack is also installed.
- If you have the Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs Expansion Pack and this expansion pack was not installed in step 7, insert the Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs Expansion Pack installation CD into your CD or DVD drive, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation of the Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs Expansion Pack.
Remove third-party productsNote Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
To remove third-party products, and then restore Zoo Tycoon to its original state from backup files, follow these steps: - Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
- Click the hard disk where Zoo Tycoon is installed.
- Double-click the Program Files folder, double-click the Microsoft Games folder, double-click the Zoo Tycoon folder, and then double-click the Updates folder.
- On the Edit menu, click Select All.
- On the File menu, click Delete to delete all the files in the Updates folder.
Note You do not have to delete the Tmp folder, if it exists. - Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
- Click the hard disk where Zoo Tycoon is installed.
- Double-click the Program Files folder, double-click the Microsoft Games folder, and then double-click the Zoo Tycoon folder.
- The Zoo Tycoon folder contains several files that have names that are similar to the following:
- Langxxx.dll
- Langxxx.dll.backup.yyy
In these file names, xxx is a number such as 0, 100, or 200, and yyy is a number such as 001, 002, or 003--for example, ELang100.dll and Lang100.dll.backup.002.
For each set of files that have the same number xxx, repeat the following steps:- Right-click the Langxxx.dll file, click Rename, type langxxx.dll.old, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click the Langxxx.dll.backup.001 file, click Rename, type langxxx.dll, and then press ENTER.
Note If the Langxxx.dlll.backup.001 file does not exist, right-click the Langxxx.dlll.backup.yyy file that has the lowest number for the yyy value. Click Rename, type langxxx.dll, and then press ENTER. - Right-click each langxxx.dll.backup.yyy file that remains, and then click Delete.
