You may experience poor network performance and Internet access issues in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 (886379)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, you may experience poor network performance or Internet access issues.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you run third-party firewall software on your computer. The Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 program connects to your local network or to the Internet by using either the ethernet network connection or the Airport network connection on your Macintosh computer. Third-party firewall software may interfere with this connection and cause reduced network performance and Internet access issues.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must switch to the built-in firewall in Mac OS X. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Disable and then exit your third-party firewall software.
  2. On the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
  3. Under Internet & Network, click Sharing.
  4. Click the Firewall tab, and then click Start.
  5. Close the System Preferences window.
