A new advertisement may be locked after you create it by using the Systems Management Server 2003 Administrator Console (885997)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0

SYMPTOMS

When you create an advertisement on a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) child site, the advertisement may be unexpectedly locked in the SMS Administrator Console. In this scenario, the icon for the advertisement has a small yellow padlock attached to it in the Administrator Console. You cannot make any changes to the advertisement, even though the advertisement was created on the child site.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You use the SMS 2003 Administrator Console to connect to and to manage an SMS 2.0 child site.
  • You use the Distribute Software Wizard to create an advertisement for a package that was created at an SMS 2003 central site or primary site.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, manually create the advertisement. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start the SMS 2003 Administrator Console.
  2. Expand Site Database, right-click Advertisements, point to New, and then click Advertisement.
  3. Type a name for the advertisement. Then, specify the package, the program, and the collection. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The SMS 2003 Distribute Software Wizard incorrectly updates the SourceSite field in the ProgramOffers table in the SMS 2.0 database. The SourceSite field value determines whether the advertisement is locked. Instead of configuring the SourceSite field to the site where the advertisement was created, the SMS 2003 Distribute Software Wizard configures the SourceSite field to the site where the program was created. Because the package which contains the program was created on the parent site, the advertisement appears to be locked.
