Some administrative shortcuts may be missing from the Administrative Tools menu if you perform an in-place upgrade of Small Business Server 2000 to Small Business Server 2003 (885956)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

If you perform an in-place upgrade of Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2000 to Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, the following administrative shortcuts may be missing from the Administrative Tools menu:
  • Active Directory Domains and Trusts
  • Active Directory Sites and Services
  • Active Directory Users and Computers

These shortcuts are still missing from the Administrative Tools menu after you install the Small Business Server 2003 Transition Pack.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must reinstall Windows Server 2003 Administrative Tools Pack (Adminpak.msi) by using Small Business Server 2003 CD1. This reinstallation overwrites the existing tools and re-creates the shortcuts.

To reinstall Adminpak.msi, follow these steps:
  1. Insert Small Business Server 2003 CD1 into the CD drive.
  2. Locate the Drive:\I386 folder.

Note In this step, Drive is a placeholder for the drive letter of your CD drive.
  3. Double-click the Adminpak.msi file.
  4. Click Next, and then click Finish.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Small Business Server 2003.
