The MOM 2005 Administrator Console crashes if you try to expand the Exchange 2000 rule group node (885839)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2005

SYMPTOMS

If you try to expand the Exchange 2000 rule group node in the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Administrator Console, the MOM 2005 Administrator Console may crash without any errors. This symptom occurs if you use the MOM 2005 Administrator Console to display lengthy knowledge that is written in double-byte character set (DBCS) characters. Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Korean are examples of languages that are written in DBCS characters.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the rule group knowledge for the Microsoft Japanese Exchange 2000 Management Pack contains about 9,000 Japanese characters. If you try to view this rule group knowledge in the MOM Administrator Console, the console crashes.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the hotfix that is provided on the international release CD. This hotfix must be applied to each computer that hosts a MOM user interface. To apply this hotfix, follow these steps:

  2. Run Mom2005-rtm-kb885839-x86-enu.exe locally on each computer that hosts a MOM user interface.
Note You can run Mom2005-rtm-kb885839-x86-enu.exe from either Windows Explorer or at a command prompt. Additionally, this hotfix affects the Browserwrapper.dll installed file.
