When you open a file on your Windows-based computer, objects appear as a red x (884507)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a file that was created in Microsoft PowerPoint X for Mac, objects such as charts or graphs may appear as a red "X."

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you open the file on your Microsoft Windows-based computer.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, ungroup the objects. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start PowerPoint X for Mac. Then, open the file that contains the chart or graph that is not displayed correctly.
  2. Select the chart or graph, click Draw, click Ungroup, and then click Yes.
  3. Save the file. Then, open the file on your Windows-based computer.

When you use the Group commands to group objects such as tables or charts, you combine them so that you can work with them as if they were single objects. You can flip, rotate, and resize or scale all objects in a group as a single unit. You can also ungroup objects whenever you want and then regroup them later.
