When you try to install an update to Windows XP Service Pack 2 or to Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, you may receive a "0x8007F0F4" error (883824)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install an update on a portable computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or on a Tablet PC that is running Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, you may receive an "0x8007F0F4" error.

Note The Windows XP SP2 features and components are included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if your portable computer or your Tablet PC is running on battery power when you try to install an update that you downloaded from the Windows Update Web site, from the Microsoft Update Web site, or from another location, such as a intranet share on a corporate network.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, plug in your computer or Tablet PC, and then run it from its AC power supply before you try to install the update on your computer.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
