You cannot install Paint Shop Pro 8 in Windows XP Service Pack 2 or in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 (873176)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Paint Shop Pro 8 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or on a Tablet PC that is running Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) dialog box appears. After you click any one of the options in the dialog box to continue installing the software, the program closes, and the installation is not completed. Following are the options that appear in the dialog box: - Turn on DEP for all programs (recommended)
- Turn off DEP (not recommended)
- Help protect all programs except
Note Windows XP SP2 features and components are included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005. CAUSEThis issue occurs when you try to install Paint Shop Pro on a computer or on a Tablet PC whose processor has the no-execute (NX) page-protection feature enabled. DEP prevents the installation of the software.WORKAROUNDInstead of using the Autorun.exe program that starts when you insert the CD-ROM in the CD drive, use the Setup program to install Paint Shop Pro: - Click Start, click Run, type the following in the Open dialog box, and then click OK:Note In this command, drive is the letter of the drive for the installation CD-ROM.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the installation.
