After you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, your computer restarts continuously (873161)

SYMPTOMSAfter you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, you are prompted to restart the computer. When the computer
starts, but before you can log on, the computer begins to continuously
restart.
Note The Windows XP SP2 features and components are included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.CAUSEThis problem occurs if you have a UMAX scanner driver
installed on your computer when you install Windows XP SP2.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, start the computer in Safe Mode, remove the UMAX driver, remove Windows XP SP2, and
then reinstall Windows XP SP2. Note You must contact

- Restart the computer.
- When you receive the following message, press F8:
Please select the operating system to start
- In Windows Advanced Option Menu, use the ARROW keys to select Safe mode with
Networking, and then press ENTER.
After you remove the UMAX driver, you must remove Windows XP
SP2 from your computer. This will make sure that the UMAX driver does not interfere with
installation of Windows XP SP2. To remove Windows XP SP2 from your computer, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run,
type appwiz.cpl , and then click OK.
This starts the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel item.
- In the list of currently installed programs, click
Windows XP Service Pack 2, and then click
Remove.
- Click Yes, and then restart the computer.
You can now reinstall Windows XP SP2. STATUSMicrosoft
