FIX: A redirected request causes the waitForResponse method of the ServerXMLHTTP class to fail (872788)

SYMPTOMS

You may use an object of the ServerXMLHTTP class to establish an HTTP connection to a Web site. When the Web site redirects your request to another Web site, the waitForResponse method of the ServerXMLHTTP class fails, and you receive the following error message:
This method cannot be called until the Send method has been called

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

  1. In Notepad, or in a text editor of your choice, paste the following code:

  2. Save the file as MyTestASP.asp in the following folder:

    hard disk drive\Inetpub\wwwroot

    Note hard disk drive is a placeholder for the drive where your Web server is installed.
  3. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  4. In the Address bar, type http://localhost/MyTestASP.asp, and then click Go.
