The 'Y' axis label of your chart is truncated in Excel for Windows (870698)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Excel 2003
- Microsoft Excel 2002
- Microsoft Excel 2000
SYMPTOMSWhen you view your chart in Microsoft Excel for Windows, you may see that the title text of the 'Y' axis or other rotated text appears to be truncated.CAUSEThis issue may occur on a wide screen display that has a greater width to height ratio than 4:3. The graphics adapter may skew non 4:3 width/height resolutions and therefore cause distortions in the display.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, set your display settings to a lower screen resolution. You must try and select a resolution that has a width to height ratio of 4:3. For example, the following steps show you how to change your display settings from a screen resolution of 1280x720 pixels to a screen resolution of 1024x768 pixels. Note See your hardware product documentation to verify the supported screen resolutions. Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
To change your screen resolution, follow these steps: - Right-click your desktop, and then click Properties.
- Click the Settings tab.
- In the Screen Resolution section, move the slider to the left so that the value under the slider reads 1024 by 768 pixels, and then click OK.
- If you see a Compatibility Warning dialog box, click Apply the new display settings without restarting, and then click OK.
- Open and view your chart in Excel for Windows.
MORE INFORMATIONGenerally, display measurements and therefore screen resolutions have a width to height ratio of 4:3. For better clarity and viewing angles on portables, some manufacturers currently produce wide-aspect display screens that have a larger width to height ratio, such as 16:10. This width to height ratio has resulted in higher screen resolution ratios.
