SYMPTOMS
Installing Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) will prevent Microsoft
Business Solutions CRM versions 1.0 and 1.2 from running correctly. Microsoft
CRM version 1.0 is not supported on Windows XP SP2, on Windows Server 2003, or
on Windows Server 2003 SP1.
To operate correctly, Microsoft CRM
version 1.2 requires the following system changes:
- Updates to the Microsoft CRM Server
- Updates to Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook (Outlook client)
computers
- Several manual configuration workarounds
RESOLUTION
Use the appropriate resolution according to your version of
Microsoft CRM and the operating system that is installed on the computer.
Microsoft CRM version 1.0 and Windows XP SP2
Microsoft CRM version 1.0 does not operate on Windows XP with
Service Pack 2 installed. Running any Microsoft CRM client on Windows XP SP2 is
not supported.
If you have not already upgraded the program, upgrade
to Microsoft CRM version 1.2 and to Microsoft CRM Sales for Outlook version 1.2
before you update any client computers to Windows XP SP2. After you upgrade the
program, install the service pack, and then perform the Microsoft CRM
workarounds that are described in this article.
Microsoft CRM version 1.0 and Windows Server 2003 SP1
Microsoft CRM version 1.0 does not operate on Windows Server 2003
with Service Pack 1 installed. Running any Microsoft CRM client on Windows
Server 2003 SP1 is not supported.
Microsoft CRM version 1.2 and Windows XP SP2
The following issues must be resolved to enable Microsoft CRM
version 1.2 to run correctly on a computer that has been updated with Windows
XP SP2. The solution for the first two issues is to install the software update
that is described in this article. The solution for the remaining issues is to
perform the listed manual workaround.
- A script error occurs when you try to attach a file to an
object such as an e-mail message, and you do not include the whole path of the
file.
Resolution: Install the update that is described in this article. - You cannot return to the Microsoft CRM home page via the
bottom navigation bar while you are using the Microsoft CRM Web
application.
Resolution: Install the update that is described in this article. - The Windows XP security firewall does not let the Outlook
client open, and you may encounter a security warning dialog box.
Workaround: When you open the Outlook client for the first time after you
install Windows XP SP2, a security message appears. Select the option
Unblock this program, despite the security risk, and then
click OK. - The Windows XP SP2 feature to block Web site pop-up windows
causes the Internet Explorer window that Microsoft CRM is using to close
immediately after you open it.
Workaround: Perform the following procedure:
- In Internet Explorer, on the Tools
menu, point to Pop-up Blocker, and then click Pop-up
Blocker Settings.
- Type the URL to your Microsoft CRM Web site, click
Add, and then click Close.
- The Import Wizard requires an ActiveX control to operate
correctly. If the specific ActiveX control is not already installed, opening
the Import Wizard will prompt you to install it. If you choose not to install
the ActiveX control, you will not be prompted again until you close and then
reopen the client.
Workaround: Restart the Web client or the Outlook client. - If you access the Microsoft CRM server from the Internet
zone instead of from the Local intranet or Trusted sites zone, some forms and
pages will display the Web site URL in the bottom status bar. This issue causes
lists to displaying incorrectly, and causes the status bar to display on top of
action buttons. Forms and pages that display this issue include the New E-mail
Template form, the Set Personal Options page, and the Add a Tab page and the
Add Fields page in System Customization.
