You receive an error message when you click Edit with FrontPage in Internet Explorer to edit a Web page in FrontPage 2002 (843243)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Edit with FrontPage in Microsoft Internet Explorer to edit a Web page in Microsoft FrontPage 2002, you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred in the COM Add-in named "FrontPage Chinese translation Add-in"
Error #:5
Invalid procedure call or argument

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this problem.

Start FrontPage 2002 before you click Edit with FrontPage

To work around this problem, start FrontPage 2002 before you click Edit with FrontPage in Internet Explorer. If you start FrontPage 2002 before you click Edit with FrontPage, you can edit a Web page that you browse to in Internet Explorer.

This workaround loads all the add-ins that are in FrontPage 2002 before you edit the Web page so that you do not experience the problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section.

Map the Web share to a drive letter

To work around this problem, map the Web share to a drive letter. To do this, click Start, click Run, type net use drive_letter: \\server\share in the Open box, and then click OK.

After you map the Web share to a drive letter, you can edit Web pages that are stored on the Web share, and you will not receive the error message that is referenced in the "Symptoms" section when you click Edit with FrontPage in Internet Explorer to edit a Web page in FrontPage 2002.

Note When you map a Web share to a drive letter, you may experience problems when you use forms that are on both Web pages and Active Server Pages (ASP) pages.

Modify the LoadBehavior registry entry

To work around this behavior, modify the LoadBehavior registry entry that is located in the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\FrontPage\Addins\FPZHTRAN.FPAddInDesigner

By default, the LoadBehavior registry entry is either set to 3 or to load when the program starts. To have the FrontPage Chinese translation add-in load when you want it to, set the LoadBehavior registry entry to 9. However, you will still receive the error message that is referenced in the "Symptoms" section when the FrontPage Chinese translation add-in starts.

You can modify the LoadBehavior registry entry directly or through Group Policy. Follow these steps to use the registry to modify the LoadBehavior registry entry directly.

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. Follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\FrontPage\Addins\FPZHTRAN.FPAddInDesigner\LoadBehavior

  3. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
  4. Type 9, and then press ENTER.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
