It may take several hours to load a large SID mapping file by using the ADMT in Windows Server 2003 (842533)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Web Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003, 64-Bit Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) to load a large security identifier (SID) mapping file, it may take several hours to load. This behavior occurs on the computer that is running the ADMT. If the computer that is running the ADMT is an Active Directory domain controller, this problem may create stress on that domain controller.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the ADMT calls the LookupAccountSid function. The LookupAccountSid function retrieves the account name, the domain name, and the account type for each SID. When there are many SIDS, this information can significantly increase the time that it takes to load the SID mapping file.
