The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft ASP.NET (included with the .NET Framework 1.1)
- Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
SYMPTOMSThe Microsoft ASP.NET Request.Url property and the Request.QueryString.Get method do not return correct data for a URL.
The QueryString bytes are decoded as a Unicode string when they really are a UTF-8 string. Therefore, every two characters or two bytes are replaced with one Unicode character in the URL.CAUSEA Content-Type header that is incorrectly formatted causes the QueryString part of a URL to be decoded incorrectly in ASP.NET. Specifically, this problem occurs when a Content-Type header does not end with a pair of quotation marks.RESOLUTIONA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
