Instructor Lab Guide Folder: winntxx.sif Should Be winnt.sifIn the Instructor Lab Guide folder, there is a folder structure as follows: Instructor Lab Guide\Setup\Computerxx
(The xx stands for each individual machine that would need to be built, i.e. Computer01, Computer02, Computer03).
Inside of each folder there are two files that are used to build a lab computer: DCxx.txt and winntxx.sif. The winntxx.sif file is named incorrectly. This file will not run unless it is simply named winnt.sif.
For example, in the Computer01 folder, there is a winnt01.sif and a DC01.txt.
Change: "winntxx.sif"
To: "winnt.sif"
Virtual PC, Lab Manual, Page 16: "Verifying the DHCP Relay Agent" WorkaroundOn page 16, under "Verifying the DHCP Replay Agent", at step 5, instead of successfully receiving an IP address lease, you receive the following error message:
"DHCP Server cannot be reached. Request has timed out."
The cause of this problem is currently unknown.
The objective of the "Verifying the DHCP Relay Agent" section is to demonstrate communication through a relay agent. Although the desired result isn't a successful address lease, relay agent communication can be demonstrated by viewing the DHCP log and noticing that a NACK was sent through the relay to Computer02.
Lab 1 configuration changes are not saved, so this problem does not impact other labs.
Note This issue applies to the Lab Manual exercise in the Virtual PC environment.
Lab Manual, Page 77: Correction To Exercise 5-1In the Lab Manual, on page 77, replace steps 18 through 22 with the following steps:
"18. Right click on the folder computerxx and choose Properties. 19. On the computerxx Properties page, click the Security tab and then click on the Advanced button. 20. On the Advanced Security Settings for computerxx, click on the Auditing tab and click Add. 21. On Select User, Computer, or Group screen, click Advanced and click Find Now. 22. In the drop down display, double click on the Users group and click OK. 23. On the Auditing Entry for computerxx, check the Successful box for List Folder/Read Data and click OK. 24. Click OK to close the Advanced Security Settings for computerxx. 25 Click OK to close the computerxx Properties page. 26. Double-click the folder you just created on the desktop. 27. Close the computerxx folder. 28. Maximize Event Viewer, and then press F5.
In the details pane, notice that events of the category Object Access were
written to the security log. 29. Double click on the Object Access Events and verify that there is an event related to accessing the computerxx folder in step 26. 30. Close Event Viewer."
