The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you view a Microsoft Excel worksheet by using Microsoft
Excel Viewer, the Xlview.exe process consumes up to 100 percent CPU time. If
you view the same worksheet by using Microsoft Excel, you do not experience
this problem.CAUSEThis problem occurs when Excel Viewer is idle. While it is
idle, Excel Viewer uses lots of CPU time. However, the Excel Viewer thread is a
low-priority thread. Because of this, you do not typically experience a
performance problem when you use Excel Viewer on a stand-alone workstation
computer. However, Excel Viewer may cause performance problems on a terminal
server. Because of this, Microsoft recommends that you do not use Excel Viewer
on a server computer.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, save the worksheet in HTML
format to permit users to view the worksheet by using a Web browser
program.STATUS Microsoft has confirmed that this is
a problem in Microsoft Excel 2000.
