The pointer jumps when you use the wireless mouse (840304)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use any one of the pointer devices that is listed in the "Applies To" section, you may periodically see large, unexpected pointer jumps.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when Microsoft IntelliPoint 4.0 or Microsoft IntelliPoint 4.1 software is installed instead of the Microsoft IntelliPoint 5.0 or later versions.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Upgrade the software

Install the IntelliPoint 5.0 or a later version software on the disc that came with the pointing device. If you cannot locate this disc, download the software. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Method 2: Switch to a USB connection

To continue using the IntelliPoint 4.0 software, follow these steps:
  1. Shut down your computer.
  2. When the computer is turned off, unplug the pointing device.
  3. Remove the green USB-to-PS/2 adapter on the end of the cord.
  4. Plug the pointing device into an available USB port, and then restart the computer.
