Cannot Launch Spreadsheet from Windows 3.1 File Manager (84060)

SUMMARY

Works may run but not load the desired spreadsheet file when you double-click the spreadsheet's file icon in the Windows 3.1 File Manager.

Solution

Do the following to correct the problem:

  1. Select any .WKS file in File Manager.
  2. From the File menu in File Manager, choose Associate.
  3. Type wks in the Files With Extension option if "wks" is not already entered.
  4. Select Microsoft Works Spreadsheet from the Associate With option.
  5. Choose the OK button.
Double-clicking on a WKS file in File Manager should start Works and open the spreadsheet correctly after this modification.
