MOM alerts remain in the "201: Ticket in Tivoli TEC server" state (839958)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 SP1

SYMPTOMS

When you are using the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) Connector Framework (MCF) together with any product connector, including the MOM-to-Tivoli TEC product connector service in the MOM Resource Kit, sometimes an invalid XML character causes the product connector to stop processing MOM alerts.

When this issue affects the MCF Web service, the MCF Web service does not work, and product connectors that depend on the MCF cannot forward new alerts from MOM. The alerts remain in the "Ticket In Product Connector Name" resolution state.

When this issue occurs, the MFC logs an exception error that is similar to the following in the application event log: System.InvalidOperationException: There is an error in XML document (20, 848). ---> System.Xml.XmlException: '_', hexadecimal value 0x01, is an invalid character. Line 23, position 64.

RESOLUTION

After you apply the following hotfix and restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC), the MCF removes invalid XML characters from the data that is being transferred to the product connector.
