Programs that use the _read function to access very large files do not receive the correct data in Windows XP (839544)

SYMPTOMS

When a program uses the _read function to access files that are larger than 4 gigabytes (GB), the program may not receive the correct data. The _read function is part of the Microsoft Visual C++ run-time library (Msvcrt.dll).
