Multiple Perflib 1010 error events are logged for the Print Spooler service in Windows 2000 (839397)

SYMPTOMS

In the application event log, multiple error messages are logged that are similar to the following:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Perflib
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1010
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: Computer_Name

Description:
The Collect Procedure for the "Spooler" service in DLL "C:\WINNT\system32\winspool.drv" generated an exception or returned an invalid status. Performance data returned by counter DLL will be not be returned in Perf Data Block. Exception or status code returned is data DWORD 0.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the collect procedure is called when the Print Spooler service is stopped. The hotfix for this issue is only applicable in scenarios where the Print Spooler service is stopped because it has been disabled. This hotfix will not correct the issue in cases where the Print Spooler service is stopped because of the service being configured as Manual.
