INFO: Devices that use the MultiPortSerial setup class cannot be installed server-side (839215)

- Microsoft Windows XP Driver Development Kit (DDK)
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Driver Development Kit (DDK)
INTRODUCTIONThe Microsoft Windows operating systems that are listed in the "Applies to" section do not permit devices that use the MultiPortSerial setup class to be installed server-side. If the device installation package meets all other requirements for a server-side installation, the driver package will be installed silently by a client-side process. Therefore, because the package is installed client-side instead of server-side, only a user who has administrator credentials and who is logged on can complete the installation. MORE INFORMATIONYou are not permitted to perform a server-side installation of those kinds of devices that use the MultiPortSerial setup class. This limitation occurs because MultiPortSerial class co-installers that are currently in use display user interface components. The requirements for a server-side installation specify that the class installer of the device and the co-installers of the device do not display property pages.REFERENCESFor more information about device installation types and about the requirements for server-side installation, see the "Device Installation Types" Help topic in the Driver Development Kit, or visit the following Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site:
