to install Microsoft SQL Server
Desktop Engine (Windows) or SQL Server
Desktop Engine (also known as MSDE 2000) Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later on a computer that has an
operating system locale that does not have a default SQL Server collation
mapping, the Setup program may fail. You may receive the following error
message: Unable to determine system default
collation. Note If you run the Setup program and you use the /qn command-line switch to suppress messages that are displayed
while the Setup program is running, you may not receive this message. If you enable verbose
logging when you run the Setup program, an error message that is similar to the
following may be logged in the setup log file: Starting
custom action UseDefaultCollation Unable to determine system default
collation. MSI (s) (7C!24): Product: Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine
