You receive a message to insert the Windows 2000 SP4 CD-ROM when you install the Adminpak.msi package after you deploy a Sysprep image in Windows 2000 (838180)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

While you are installing the Microsoft Windows 2000 Administration Tools package (Adminpak.msi), you receive a message to insert the Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) CD-ROM. This behavior occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You deployed an image that was created from a Windows 2000-based computer that has SP4 installed.
  • The image was created by using the System Preparation tool (Sysprep.exe).
  • SP4 was installed by using the Update.exe program.
Additionally, the following event and other events may be logged in the system event log:

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if you follow these steps to create the image:
  1. Install Windows 2000.
  2. Use the Update.exe program to install SP4.
  3. Run the Sysprep.exe tool to prepare the image.
  4. Deploy the image.
  5. Install the Adminpak.msi package.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps to create the image:
  1. Install Windows 2000 from an SP4 integrated CD-ROM or from an SP4 integrated network distribution folder.
  2. Run the Sysprep.exe tool.
  3. Deploy the image.
  4. Install the Adminpak.msi package.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, install the Adminpak.msi package before you run the Sysprep.exe tool.
