The Web Author console is not displayed in the MCMS 2002 Web site (837746)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2002
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 SP1
- Microsoft Content Management Server 2002 SP1a
SYMPTOMSWhen you are logged on to a Microsoft Content Manager
Server (MCMS) 2002 Web site in the Author role, the Web
Author console may not be displayed after you receive one of the following
error messages: Error Message 1The page cannot be found - HTTP
400 - File not found Error Message 2The page cannot
be displayed - HTTP 500 - Internal Server Error This
issue may occur when the following conditions are true:
- The MCMS Web site is configured to use Windows
Authentication, and Anonymous access is enabled.
- The MCMS Web site is configured to permit guest
access.
- You log on to the Web Author console on the MCMS Web
site.
CAUSEThis problem occurs because Microsoft Internet Explorer caches the user credentials that are
used to log on to the Web site when you create a Web site that requires user
credentials for access. Internet Explorer uses cached credentials so
that the user does not have to be authenticated more than one time per
session. If you are logged on to the Web Author console and you
receive either of the error messages that are described in the "Symptoms" section,
Internet Explorer resets the user credentials to use the default Anonymous
access setting. When the credentials are reset to the Anonymous access
setting, you do not have permissions to use the Web Author console, and the Web Author console is not displayed in the
MCMS Web site.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use one of the following
methods:
- Configure the MCMS Web site to use Forms-based
authentication. For more information about how to configure Forms-based
Authentication in Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), see the
"Forms-based Authentication" topic in the "Authentication Users" section of the
MCMS System Administration (Sysadmin.chm) product documentation.
Note You can find the MCMS System Administration (Sysadmin.chm) file in the
following folder of your MCMS computer:Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Content
Management Server\Docs - Create two Web entry points:
- Create an MCMS read/write Web entry point for authors.
- Disable Anonymous access for this point.
- Create a read-only Web entry point
for subscribers.
- Enable Anonymous access for this point.
