FIX: You receive a "System.AppDomainUnloadedException" error message when a Managed Extensions for C++ object is unloaded in the .NET Framework 1.1 (836650)

SYMPTOMS

When a Managed Extensions for C++ object is unloaded in the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Unhandled Exception: System.AppDomainUnloadedException
Attempted to access an unloaded AppDomain as Server.ManagedClass.Finalize() in c:\...\server.h line 32

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you create an application in Microsoft Visual C# .NET that creates the following:
  • An application domain
  • An instance of a Managed Extensions for C++ class where the Managed Extensions for C++ class is a wrapper for an unmanaged C++ class that has a Virtual Destructor
Note This problem does not occur if there is no Virtual Destructor in the unmanaged C++ class.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1.
