SYMPTOMSClient computers that are running any of the following operating systems on a Windows Server 2003 network may not be able to automatically download and install network printer drivers from the server: - Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows 95
Important The preceding list of operating systems are called Windows 9x in the rest of this article. CAUSEThis issue occurs because of a problem in the way Windows 9x installs network printer drivers.
Note This problem affects only Windows 9x client computers that are members of a Windows Server 2003 cluster network. WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, store the driver for the network printer on a network share, and then specify this location when you install the network printer driver on Windows 9x client computers.
