SYMPTOMS

When you use the System.Data.Odbc namespace with an ODBC driver that does not support the SQLGetInfo(SQL_SEARCH_PATTERN_ESCAPE) function, the OdbcDataAdapter wizard and the OdbcDataSet wizard in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET throw the following error message:
Retrieving the schema for <OdbcDataAdapter> failed.
Index was outside the bounds of the array.

CAUSE

The error that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section occurs for both the OdbcDataAdapter wizard and the OdbcDataSet wizard. The failure that is described in the error message causes the OdbcDataAdapter components information to be incomplete. Because the OdbcDataAdapter information is incomplete, the IDE wizards cannot auto-generate the underlying ODBC class that handles the DataSet object and the DataTable object.
