How to download and install the update

Client update

If you installed Visio 2003 from a CD-ROM, you have the following two options:
  • Use the Microsoft Office Product Updates Web site to automatically install all the latest updates that include all available service packs and public updates.
  • Install only the Visio 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack Update: KB832886 by following the steps that are described later in this article.
Note Microsoft recommends that you install the update by using the Office Product Updates Web site. The Office Product Updates Web site detects your particular installation of Visio 2003 and prompts you to install exactly what you must have to make sure that your Visio 2003 installation is completely up-to-date.

To download and install the update to client computers, follow these steps:
  1. Click Save to save the Visio2003-KB832886-FullFile-Ita.exe file to the selected folder.
  2. Start Microsoft Windows Explorer, locate the folder where you downloaded the file, and then double-click the Visio2003-KB832886-FullFile-Ita.exe file.
  3. When you are prompted to install the update, click Yes.
  4. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  5. If you are prompted to, insert your Visio 2003 CD-ROM in the computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then click OK.
Note After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to an installation before the update was installed, you must remove Visio 2003, and then install it again from the original CD-ROM.

Administrative update

If you installed Visio 2003 from a server location, the server administrator must update the server location with the administrative update and deploy that update to your computer.

If you are the server administrator, follow these steps to download and install the update for administrative use:
  1. In Windows Explorer, create a new folder on drive C, and then name the folder KB832886.
  2. Click Save to save the Visio2003-KB832886-FullFile-Ita.exe file to the C:\KB832886 folder.
  3. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
  4. At the command prompt, type the following lines, and then press ENTER after each line:

    cd\kb832886
    Visio2003-KB832886-FullFile-Ita.exe /c /t:c:\kb832886

  5. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement.
  6. At the command prompt, type exit to quit Command Prompt.
  7. If you are familiar with the procedure for updating your administrative installation, click Start, and then click Run.

    In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK

    msiexec /a Admin Path\MSI File /p c:\kb832886\MSP File SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE

    where Admin Path is the path of your administrative installation point for Visio 2003 (for example, C:\Visio2003), MSI File is the .msi database package for Visio 2003, and MSP File is the name of the update (for example, Visio2003-KB832886-FullFile-Ita.msp).

    Note You can append /qb+ to the command line so that the End User License Agreement dialog box does not appear.
  8. To deploy the update to client workstations, click Start, and then click Run.

    In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK

    msiexec /i Admin Path\MSI File REINSTALL=Feature List REINSTALLMODE=vomu

    where Admin Path is the path of your administrative installation point for Visio 2003 (for example, C:\Visio2003), MSI File is the MSI database package for Visio 2003, and Feature List is the list of feature names (case sensitive) that have to be reinstalled for the update. To install all features, you can use REINSTALL=ALL, or you can install the following feature:

How to determine whether the update is installed

The update contains an updated version of the following file:

To determine whether the update is installed on your computer, follow these steps.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
  1. Click Start, and then click Search.
  2. Under Search Companion, click All files and folders.
  3. In the All or part of the file name box, type Visintl.dll, and then click Search.
  4. In the right pane, right-click the Visintl.dll file that is returned in the search results, and then click Properties.
  5. Click the Version tab, and then verify the version of the Visintl.dll file that is installed on your computer.
Note If the Visio 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack Update: KB832886 is already installed on your computer, you receive the following error message when you try to install the Visio 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack Update: KB832886:
This update has already been applied.
