Shooting frozen Rheinland ships in Freelancer causes mission 3 to fail (832802)


The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you are playing Microsoft Freelancer, you may experience any one of the following symptoms in mission 3:
  • The Rheinland ships stop moving.
  • If you shoot at the Rheinland ships, you receive a message that states that the mission failed.
  • You cannot hear voices in the game.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 codec is not installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the Fraunhofer codec. To do this, use Method 2 in the following KB article.

WORKAROUND

If you install the codec and if does not resolve the issue, ram the three ships that you encounter in this mission to destroy them without shooting.
