How to download and install the update
Important Before you install this update, make sure that the following
requirements have been met:
- Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0
Before you install
this update, you must install Windows Installer 2.0 or later. For additional

Client update
If you installed Microsoft Office XP from a CD-ROM, you have the
following two options:
- Use the Microsoft Office Product Updates Web site to
automatically install all the latest updates that include all available service
packs and public updates.
- Install only the Microsoft Office XP Input Method Editor
Update: KB832670 by following the steps that are described later in this
article.
Note Microsoft recommends that you install the client update by using
the Office Product Updates Web site. The Office Product Updates Web site
detects your particular installation of Microsoft Office and prompts you to
install exactly what you must have to make sure that your Office installation
is completely up-to-date.

required updates that you must install on your computer, visit the following

After detection is complete, you receive a list of recommended
updates for your approval. Click
Start Installation to
complete the process.

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most
current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file
was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to
prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.
To download and install the client update, follow these
steps:
- Click Open to start the download and
installation of the Office XP Input Method Editor Update: KB832670.
- If you are prompted to install the update, click
Yes.
- Click Yes to accept the License
Agreement.
- Insert your Office XP CD-ROM if you are prompted to do so,
and then click OK.
- When you receive a message that indicates the installation
was successful, click OK.
Note After you install the update, you cannot remove it. To revert to
an installation before the update was installed, you must remove Office XP, and
then install it again from the original CD-ROM.
Administrative update
If you installed your Office XP product from a server location,
the server administrator must update the server location with the
administrative update and deploy that update to your computer.
Note If you want to deploy the Japanese version of this update, see
the "Additional administrative update information" section of this
article.
If you are the server administrator, follow these steps to
download the administrative update:
- Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Click the language that you want to download.
- Click Save to save the update installation
file to the selected folder.

- In Windows Explorer, double-click the installation file
(for example, double-click
Officexp-kb832670-fullfile-cht.exe).
- If you are prompted to install the update, click
Yes.
- Click Yes to accept the License
Agreement.
- In the Type the location where you want to place
the extracted files box, type c:\kb832670, and
then click OK.
- Click Yes when you are prompted to create
the folder.
- If you are familiar with the procedure for updating your
administrative installation, click Start, and then click
Run. Type the following command in the Open
box
msiexec /a AdminPath\MSI File /p C:\kb832670\MSI File SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE
where Admin Path is the path of your
administrative installation point for Office XP (for example, C:\OfficeXP), and
MSI File is the .msi database package for the Office
XP product (for example, Proplus.msi), and MSP File
is the name of the administrative update.
Note You can append /qb+ to the command line so that the Office XP Administrative
Installation dialog box and the End User License
Agreement dialog box do not appear. - To deploy the update to the client workstations, click
Start, and then click Run. Type the following
command in the Open box
msiexec /i AdminPath\MSI FileREINSTALL=Feature List REINSTALLMODE=vomu
where Admin Path is the path of your
administrative installation point for Office XP (for example, C:\OfficeXP),
MSI File is the MSI database package for the Office
XP product (for example, Proplus.msi), and
FeatureList is the list of feature names (case
sensitive) that have to be reinstalled for the update. To install all features,
you can use REINSTALL=ALL, or you can install the following feature:
Additional administrative update information
There is no administrative installation file for the Japanese
version of the Office XP Input Method Editor Update: KB832670. The update is
made up of one executable file (the Officexp-kb832670-client-jpn.exe file) that
must be run on each client computer that runs the Japanese version of Microsoft
Office XP.
To deploy the Japanese client version of Office XP Input
Method Editor Update: KB832670, you can save the executable file to a file
server, and then use one of the following methods:
- Add a line to the NT logon script or Active Directory
Computer Startup script that instructs the user's computer to run the
file.
- Use software distribution software, such as Microsoft
System Management Server (SMS), to run a script that instructs the file to be
run on the user's computer.
- Provide users with a command-line or a batch file that will
execute the installation for the user.
- Instruct users to locate the file on the file server and
execute the installation by double-clicking on the file.

To deploy the Japanese version of Office XP Input
Method Editor Update: KB832670 to users who install Office XP from an

following methods:
- Use the Setup.ini Customization Wizard to chain the
installation to the Office XP install.
- Include an entry in the Custom Installation Wizard to run
the executable during the Office XP install.

To determine if the update is installed on your computer,
follow these steps.
Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the
following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your
product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, and then click
Search.
- In the Search Results pane, click
All files and folders under Search
Companion.
- In the All or part of the file name box,
type the name of one of the files that is listed in the previousl list
depending on your language, and then click Search.
- In the list of files, right-click the found file, and then
click Properties.
- On the Version tab, determine the version
of the file that is installed on your computer.
Note If the Office XP Input Method Editor Update: KB832670 is already
installed on your computer, you receive the following error message when you
try to install the Office XP Input Method Editor Update: KB832670:
This
update has already been applied or is included in an update that has already
been applied.
Windows Installer Update Requirements

The Office XP Input Method Editor Update:
KB832670 fixes the following Japanese Office XP Input Method Editor issue that
was previously not documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
The Input Method Editor retains the settings from last the Microsoft Windows Terminal Services session
When you log on to a Windows Terminal Services session,
your Japanese Input Method Editor may retain the same settings as your previous
Terminal Services session. This problem occurs because your Windows Logon
session could not remove your temporary user profile when you logged off your
previous Terminal Services session.
