PRB: Error Installing Visual Studio Tools for the Office System 2003 with the Office Professional 2003 Trial Edition or with the Office Professional 2003 Evaluation Edition (831856)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System 2003, you may receive the following error message:

Your computer must have Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 installed before you can install Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for the Microsoft Office System.

CAUSE

Visual Studio Tools for the Office System 2003 requires a full retail version of Office Professional Edition 2003. This error may occur if you install Office Professional 2003 Trial Edition or Office Professional 2003 Evaluation Edition.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

RESOLUTION

If you install either Office Professional 2003 Trial Edition or Office Professional 2003 Evaluation Edition and then you run Office Setup in maintenance mode so that you can reinstall by using an installation source for the full retail version of Office Professional Edition 2003, you may still receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section. To correct this problem, you must remove Office Professional 2003 Trial Edition or Office Professional 2003 Evaluation Edition and then perform a new installation by using the installation source for the full retail version of Office Professional Edition 2003.
