  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0

SYMPTOMS

You run the Patch Installation Agent (PatchInstall.exe) that is included with the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) Software Update Services Feature Pack (SUS), and you use the /q switch together with the /z parameter. If you do this, the SMS Hardware Inventory Agent service may not start when you restart the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you must apply the hotfix that are mentioned in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

MORE INFORMATION

How to apply the hotfix

To apply the hotfix, run the Setup program for the appropriate update, where xxx represents your 3-digit language code:
  • Security Update Inventory Tools - SecurityPatch_xxx.exe
  • Distribute Software Updates Wizard - PatchWiz_xxx.exe
  • Microsoft Office Inventory Tool for Updates - OfficePatch_xxx.exe
To upgrade to a more recent version of Systems Management Server, you must remove the existing installation. In this case, the Setup program detects existing installations and then prompts you to remove them.

If you apply SecurityPatch_xxx.exe, do not remove existing SUS packages, SUS advertisements, or SUS collections. Do not create a new SUS collection and a new SUS advertisement. Make sure that you use the same name for the SUS package as in the earlier installation.

To update existing SUS package to include the new Scanhlpr.dll file, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point Programs, point to Systems Management Server, and then click SMS Administrator Console.
  2. In the SMS Administrator console, click Packages.
  3. On the Action menu, click All Tasks, and then click Update Distribution Points.
