Large bitmap files may not print completely (831692)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to print a bitmap (.bmp) file that is larger than 2 gigabytes (GB), the image may not print completely. Part of the image that you are trying to print is cut off.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Graphics Device Interface (GDI) in Microsoft Windows XP has a 2 GB limitation for device bitmaps.

Examples

  • Paper size set to length 3000mm, width 800mm, and dots per inch (dpi) 600. The limit is reached at 1460mm.
  • Paper size set to length 3000mm, width 800mm, and dpi 400. The limit is reached at 2285mm.
