You may receive the "this operation has been cancelled" error message when you first run Outlook 2002 (831390)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you start Microsoft Outlook 2002 for the first time, you may receive the following error message:
This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer.
Please contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Group Policy setting NoViewOnDrive policy is in effect. When you first run Outlook 2002, the first run code tries to add two shortcuts on the Outlook Bar. If the NoViewOnDrive policy setting is turned on, you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section of this article for each shortcut. This error message only occurs the first time that you run Outlook 2002.

This behavior does not affect the operation of the Outlook 2002 program, and you can ignore the error message when you receive it.
