You cannot save changes to an XSLT Data View Web Part in FrontPage 2003 (830981)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services

SYMPTOMS

Any changes that you have made to your Extensible Style sheet Language (XSLT) Data View Web Part in Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003 are not saved when the page is saved. You are not prompted to save the external XSL file that is used to render your XSLT Data View Web Part.

CAUSE

The problem occurs when your XSL file uses <xsl:transform> instead of <xsl:stylesheet> as the root tag.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Open the XSL file in FrontPage 2003.
  2. Find the following text in the file:

    <xsl:transform [version="1.0"] [xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"] [xmlns:msxsl="urn:schema_location:xslt"] [xmlns:user=http://my_domain_name/my_namespace]>

  3. Change the text xsl:transform to xsl:stylesheet.
  4. Find the text </xsl:transform>, and then change this text to </xsl:stylesheet>.
  5. Save the XSL file.
