You cannot remove Visio 2000 completely using upgrade installation of Visio 2003 (830876)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2003
  • Microsoft Office Visio Standard 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office Visio 2003 by using an elevated privilege Group Policy setting, the installation process does not completely remove Microsoft Visio 2000 from the destination computer. Approximately 87 megabytes (MB) of the Visio 2000 program remain on the computer.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are true:
  • You install Visio 2003 by using an elevated privilege Group Policy setting. This means that you install Visio 2003 on a per-user basis.
  • Microsoft Visio 2000 was installed on a per-computer basis.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:
  • Remove Visio 2000 from the computer before you install Visio 2003.
  • Perform a standard installation of Visio 2003. Do not remove Visio 2000. Leave both versions of Visio on the computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.
